The “HOMA index” (abbreviation for Homeostasis Model Assessment) can be used to find out whether insulin resistance is present, i.e. whether the body’s cells no longer react sufficiently to the messenger substance insulin. As a result, the blood sugar level does not drop sufficiently. The HOMA index is calculated from the fasting insulin concentration and fasting glucose concentration.
You should be fasting for 12 hours before taking the blood sample.
