Cortisol

Cortisol is a vital hormone produced in the adrenal cortex. Among other things, it is instrumental in regulating blood pressure and heartbeat and is involved in the sugar metabolism. In a physically stressful situation or excitement, the body produces more cortisol in order to adapt to the stress.

If the cortisol level is too low due to a dysfunction of the adrenal cortex, this can have serious consequences. Typical complaints include weakness, nausea, low blood pressure or a drop in performance. Too much cortisol, in turn, leads to chronically elevated blood sugar levels, increased blood pressure and obesity. Susceptibility to infections can also increase, especially in combination with low DHEA levels.

Important Note: As cortisol levels can change during the day it is important that any blood work required is drawn before 10am as this can impact the performance of the software.
