Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in building new blood and nerve cells. An adequate supply of vitamin B12 is particularly important if you are trying to conceive and during pregnancy. A vitamin B deficiency can lead to limited fertility, miscarriages (due to circulatory disorders of the placenta, among other things) and pregnancy complications. Since the growing baby needs vitamin B12 for the growth of nerve tracts, brain and blood, a vitamin B12 deficiency during pregnancy can also lead to impaired growth in the unborn child. Vitamin B12 is found in dairy products (especially cheese and curd), eggs, fish, seafood, meat and offal. People who have a vegetarian or vegan diet often need vitamin B12 supplements for an adequate supply.
